Will the USB input on the back of the KMC 3 both play and charge my portable music device?
The KMC 3’s USB input will only charge most portable music devices using the cord that came with the particular device. Music devices without a Bluetooth feature can be played on the KMC 3 by connecting a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord between the device’s headphone output and the KMC 3’s 3.5mm input on the rear, then changing the KMC 3 to its 3.5mm input. USB charging occurs when the KMC 3 is on either AC or battery power but NOTE that charging a device while the KMC 3 is running on battery power will significantly shorten battery life. We recommend only charging your device for a short time period and only when absolutely needed when the KMC 3 is on battery power.

What type of batteries work best and last the longest in the KMC 3?
We recommend alkaline “D” cell batteries or, especially if battery power will be used often, rechargeable “D” cell batteries with a separate charger (the KMC 3 will not recharge batteries).  For many of our tests we used Energizer alkaline “D” cells, rated at between 10,000-20,000 mAh, depending on the load. With batteries, like anything else, you get what you pay for so we recommend a known brand name with a higher mAh rating.  NiMH rechargeable batteries and a charger for them cost more initially but would pay for themselves in the long run if you plan to use battery power on the KMC 3 frequently.

Bass periodically cuts off for short times when playing the KMC-3 at high volumes.
This is a sign that your battery power is becoming weak because the system is demanding more power than the weakened batteries can provide.  Play at a lower volume until you replace (or recharge with a separate charger if using rechargeable) the batteries, or switch to AC power.

Will the KMC 3 recharge my rechargeable batteries?
No, the KMC 3 will operate on alkaline or rechargeable “D” cell batteries but is not designed to act as a charger for rechargeable batteries.  If you decide to use rechargeable batteries, make sure you also have a separate charger to recharge them.

Yes, when you activate the Bluetooth pairing feature on the KMC 3 it will search for the last Bluetooth device it was paired with, automatically connect with it, and play it through the Bluetooth “input”.  If that device is not available or does not have Bluetooth engaged, the KMC 3 will automatically switch to the AUX (3.5mm) input as its source.

What is the best way to clean the KMC 3?
The KMC 3’s cabinet is coated with a soft-feel type of paint.  Dry dusting or cleaning with a dry or water-damp cloth is the best cleaning method for the cabinet and rubber top “shelf’. If any particles are lodged in the top shelf, adhesive tape will clean it up. The front grille should only be dusted with a dry cloth.
