DJI is putting data privacy high on the agenda with its latest robot vacuums. The new DJI ROMO 2 range, unveiled at IFA 2026, combines upgraded obstacle detection and cleaning hardware with a Local Data Mode designed to keep footage captured inside your home from reaching external servers.

The ROMO 2 range consists of the ROMO P2 and ROMO A2, both following the translucent design language of DJI’s original ROMO launched in 2025. Like their predecessor, the new models borrow technology from DJI’s drones for navigation and obstacle avoidance, but the company says the perception system has been rebuilt from the ground up.

DJI claims this gives the ROMO 2 “millimeter-level awareness of floor-level obstacles”, helping it recognise tricky objects such as cables, glass and mirrors while adjusting its suction and cleaning approach accordingly. There’s also a built-in light to help the robot spot dirt and obstacles when cleaning in darker areas.

The navigation improvements are joined by some serious cleaning hardware. The ROMO 2 has a LiDAR-guided mopping arm that can reach underneath sofas and cabinets, with a 123-degree swing for greater coverage.

It can also generate up to 36,000 Pa of suction, with a pressure plate designed to create a seal against the floor. And, much like some other premium robot vacuums, the ROMO 2 can use its mechanical legs to climb over ledges as high as 8.5cm. But it’s the privacy features that could make these robots particularly interesting.

DJI plans to introduce Local Data Mode to ROMO 2 during Q4 2026. The feature originally appeared on the company’s drones and is designed to cut the DJI Home app’s connection to the internet when enabled.
